User Experience Consultant, York – up to £40K, J529

Monday, July 26th, 2010

My client, a huge employer nationally is looking to build a user experience centre of excellence in York. The team have around 5 people working nationally and around 11 team members in the design and UX team onsite ( including contractors). We are looking to populate the user experience team with people that can lead and define research internally or work with external partners.

You help to understand customers across B2B and B2C products and working with other teams across the business to help them achieve their business goals. Working with stakeholders is a huge part of the process, and while projects are often initiated by those teams ( sales, marketing, distribution) there is also an innovation programme being put in place so you can initiate new ideas. You will have experience of consulting in the user experience space – and working with design and technology teams and pulling together the full suite of ux documentation – business and user research, personas, interaction designs, user journeys, sitemaps and wireframes. There is a good work life-balance at this company – an onsite cafe, working in a great city with an onsite cafe. The company also offers 29 days holiday, a brilliant pension contribution (almost double your input) and a bonus and profit sharing scheme.

If you interested in hearing more about this new permanent role in York, drop me a line.

Interaction Designer, London, £30k -£40k, J497

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Hello everyone,

We are working with a new and really rather different digital agency on a number of key permanent hires for their digital project teams. We are looking for interaction designers, either entry level or mid-weight, who like the idea of working for a digital agency who genuinely seem to be trying to do things a little differently to everyone else.

Their work:

These guys strive to create beautiful, user centred interfaces for a variety of products across mobile, web, desktop and hardware. UX is at the centre of everything they do, they have one of the most user centred production process’ that we have seen, and the UX consultants within the team lead the projects and client engagements. If you have ever dreamt  of being able to focus on creating beautiful digital solutions, without having to spend half your time evangelising and educating those around you, then these guys would be worth exploring. They work in a very agile way, with all facets of the production process in-house, making iteration and refinement a central tenet of what they do. If you have a creative passion for what you do, these guys will provide you with the support and tools you need to develop as far as your imagination will allow.

The roles:

These guys are engaged with a broad cross section of organisations and clients, but their most immediate pressure point relates to a project within a global Financial Services organisation, and in direct relation to an internal application to be used by traders and brokers. A knowledge of financial products (quants, derivatives, trading principles etc..) would be incredibly advantageous, but by no means essential. The ability to quickly understand interaction principles in relation to very information heavy systems, and be able to quickly generate ideas, sketches and prototypes for how those systems should function is essential.

You will be creating:

User cases, User stories, wireframes (lo-fi and hi-fi), research and requirements documentation, beautiful interactions

You will be:

A UX / Interaction / Interface designer with between 1-5 years experience, with a strong portfolio, and an ability to bring simplicity to complex systems. You will be passionate about creating beautiful interactions that bring systems to life, and want to work in a forward thinking ‘studio’ environment surrounded by like-minded people.

If this sounds of interest, please do get in touch as soon as you can, including your portfolio (if we don’t already have it), and I will send you all the information on the roles.

User Experience consultant, Freelance, £350- £400 per day, London J486

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Hello everyone,

I have a new freelance role to brief you on, to start this Wednesday 30th June, paying between £350-400pday (depending on experience obviously) and lasting at least 4 weeks, but most likely 8.

It is to work directly with, and be client facing for, a global investment bank, working on an application redesign. There is already a senior designer on the project team, so this role is entirely focussed around requirements gathering, scoping, and conducting in depth business research from the internal stakeholders, to fully understand the business requirements and considerations for the product.

Knowledge of financial products is essential for this role, as you will be liaising directly with heads of departments (trading, quants, derivatives etc..) and will need gain buy-in from these people, and put them at ease that you understand how the idiosyncrasies of how this sort of information would need to be handled by digital applications, and what the implications are from a UX perspective.

If you are a heavyweight practitioner, very accustomed to helping clients to define what their solutions need to be, as opposed to just delivering documentation around that solution, than please do drop me a line ASAP. ben@wearefutureheads.co.uk

User Experience Consultants, London, £250pd or a pro rata salary of up to £65K- J487

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

My client is based in Central London and is looking for an additional hire into the user experience team due to so many interesting projects coming up.

You will work onsite with the design and technology teams and help bring the existing sites into conformity with the over arching brand.  You will be looking after around 9 different websites, they mostly are youth brands but the most interesting thing is how engaged the audiences are – so there is lots of innovation and fluid development to work around and support this. They also have some projects designing for ipad and iphone – so you will be at the cutting edge of technology using your experience of sketching, mock-ups and user flows. Experience of  running user testing sessions would be great.

Other stuff I *loved*

You can actually change the business, you are invited to spend one day a week working on a project which is work related, but personal – and there is history of this going live.

All staff get cool perks, a talk with an industry leader weekly and a summer ball.

They are doing some user testing on site all the time, all UX input is very welcome across the board and design and tech teams.

You are working with some really cool bands, and you might bump into the Arctic Monkeys or Katherine Jenkins

They are working on a major project with a big broadcaster, on a project that will allow you to access loads of radio sites from one interface.

It’s based in the heart of London.

If you are in a contract role and want to do more sketching, less visio/axure and see quick change -call me.

If you are in a permanent job and think this would be a good move into your first contract, drop me a line – it’s a one off and worth going gaga over. be@wearefutureheads.co.uk
