Ed’s weekly News and Views!
Hello I hope we are all ready for the weekend? A quick introduction, I’m Ed Rycroft the new member of the Digital Delivery/ PM team here at Futureheads. Here are a few stories that have caught my eye, I hope you enjoy!
Twitter to sell its tweet archive
Twitter is now set to sell its back catalogue of Tweets, and I suppose it was only a matter of time! We are all aware of the absolute presence of Social Media within business, whether raising awareness of a brand or through a social media campaign. Yet now our tweets will be providing the hard data for consumer and market research... who’d have thought 140 characters would have so much value, but as is the hot topic of the moment our personal data is actually of massive value! Purchasing music, now and then
So as many of us choose to consume content evermore by digital means surely we can say this is true of music. Well in terms of sales perhaps, yet recent research shows that when it comes to music nothing can quite beat walking out of the shop with that shiny new CD and playing it on a good old Hi-Fi (and this is the case for 80% of us in the UK)! I believe it’s because you get so much more with a physical CD that digital download stores have not come close to matching yet. Read here for more! http://tgr.ph/xmVCAX
Censorship on the internet
Here’s an interesting piece on the good old WWW and censorship of information by giants such as Google and Facebook. The balance of editorial powers on the web is very much an ongoing hot topic. It’s strange to think how much information is filtered from us as individuals due to our browsing patterns, and indeed that what we think we want to see is not always what we need to see. A social installation like no other
If we are talking about digital campaigns then this has to be one that has gone down with a bang (literally). A social instillation with a difference, this campaign allowed fans of the new Twisted Metal game for Playstation to truly get in on the action and fire a machine gun remotely from the comfort of their own home via a Facebook installation. You have to say.. its pretty novel! http://bit.ly/vYZJAE
A new bit of tech that could catch on
The IllumiShare is definitely a piece of tech that could make a big difference to the way that we remotely communicate. Allowing you to share any physical or digital object the Illumishare is essentially a camera/ projector combo and is a product of Microsoft research. Playing games, remote learning and discussions of objects are just some of the impressive examples in this video clip. Check it out http://bit.ly/xIhXwj
