Webby Winners
Earlier this week the winners of the 16th annual Webby Awards were announced, with the awards ceremony taking place at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York later this month. Considered the ‘Oscars of the Internet’, first time webby winners included ‘Pintrest’ (Best Social Media Website), Instagram (Webby Break out of the year) and Google+ (People’s Voice Webby). Singer Bjork was also honoured in the ‘Best Artist’ category for her digital album ‘Biophilia’, which incorporated touch screen technology and was released in the form of a series of apps.
Agency Tribal DDB also scooped an award in the ‘Best Automotive/Navigation/Visual Design’ category for their Berlin VW website ‘The 21st Century Beetle – Rock 'n' Scroll’. The site uses clever design to highlight the history of the car.

Twitter boosts sales for small business
We love a twitter story here at Futureheads, and we’re also partial to a bit of Dragon’s Den, so here’s a story that combines the two.
Soula Zavacopolous set up her card company The London Studio three years ago, but it wasn’t until she signed up to twitter that the company’s sales took off. Things improved further when she sent a tweet to Dragon’s Den Theo Paphitis, who has set up a ‘Small Business Sunday Competition’ in which he promotes his favourite small business to his 240,000 twitter followers each week. When he chose the London Studio, its weekly website traffic doubled, and 13,000 extra cards were sold the following month. Proof of the power twitter yields for first time entrepreneurs.

Standing out from the crowd with the S Pebble?
Everyone has been talking about Samsung’s interesting marketing campaign for their new Galaxy SIII Android phone, in which they brand all Apple users ‘sheep’. It seems that Samsung are trying their hardest to stand out from the crowd, with their simultaneous launch of the S Pebble, an intriguingly shaped MP3 player that pairs up with the phone. It has been marketed at fitness freaks who don’t want to take their phone out of their pocket when exercising, but I’m not sure that Apple users will be green with envy over this one. What do you think?

Hope you all have a great bank holiday weekend!
