Toby’s responsive news & views.
Due to client demands or future-proofing I've been seeing more and more responsive design projects coming up recently. Whilst I'm sure I don't have to talk about what it is, I thought it would be good to collate some of the articles I've read around it. Below I've put together a trio of hefty articles from overviews to examples.. Enjoy!
http://bit.ly/m3ap1L - what is Responsive design & how to use it.
Smashing Magazine gives a really good overview of the origins and key principles of responsive design. Who knew that it originated from responsive architecture? The principal of how buildings adapt to the flow of people moving through them...
http://bit.ly/m3ap1L - 25 quality responsive Wordpress themes.
The most obvious site to make responsive is your portfolio, right? A lot of designers are using places like cargo (which I'm a big advocate for) to host their site, but some of these themes are equally as minimal but really set things apart. A personal favourite of mine is the Tumblr-esque Grido theme.
http://bit.ly/vLyH4K - 15 responsive CSS frameworks worth considering.
As with most CSS frameworks, these will allow you to rapidly develop sites without doing your own basic CSS coding. However, all these frameworks come with a responsive layout so you can create for multiple devices and resolutions.. Nice!
I'd be keen to know what sources/ seminars you've found most useful in bulking up your know how on responsive design. I'd be equally keen, as always, to hear your thoughts on the articles above...
